uniting the left

how about a common enemy?

I'm thinking that the things I most *detest* about humanity could potentially become a rallying cry for liberals to gain true power.  That is:

misogynists, racists and homophobes (oh my!)

I like this strategy because it really attacks "how the right has used emotion to win recent elections".   Playing on peoples fears has proved (so far) to be a far more effective course than any kind of instruction/education (but probably this is simply due to the fact that money rules our political process, and the high cost of broadcast media advertisements making it impractical to effectively "educate" anyone in 30-second spots).

All three instances seem to come from the same "instinct" to look at outsiders as "not worthy of the same respect that I ask be shown me".  My feeling is that this is a completely understandable consequence of how our species managed to leverage Darwinism to "evolve intelligence".  That is, the success of early "people" meant that they needed to be bound together in a group.   Tribalism and all the instincts to define family/community as "us" and all other persons as "them" is one of the driving forces of humanity.  But I really think that it's possible to inclusively expand those definitions to include all the humans on the planet, and once we do that, we find that we don't need to waste nearly as much time with strife, fighting, etc...

So my 3 enemies get fought simply with education.   It's not a hard battle to win, it really only requires that people with those views open their minds slightly.  If you can get them to truly listen to you, I honestly believe that many of the folks who I would put in those groups can eventually be won over to a more enlightened view of the world and humanity.   If done right, I think eventually the same "ethos" of including all of the rest of the planet's humans in one large family/community will naturally lead to extending this beyond humanity (so that the flora and fauna of the planet will be brought "in" as well).
