windsurfing again
5 months and 5 days. Hopefully (knocking on wood) it'll never be that long again :-].
I was psyched. For two reasons.
First my knee was fine (though there was a slight adjustment (mostly about not rolling onto my left knee on the board, as I used to roll onto either (or both)). Second, it only took 5-10 minutes before I was feeling it again (getting out into the offshore breeze was a little tricky).
There were a couple really heavy gusts. One time in particular I couldn't quite turn away from the very sharp upwind tack (which was working sortof (as I had to really crank against the sail, but for not much actual speed (or it didn't seem I was being very efficient))). So it was also good in that I couldn't come right back to it and totally feel like I had mastery totally over the board. But it was really fun sailing. Not a whole lot of time out there all told, but enough to work towards next time and building up some endurance. And I didn't want to put too much on the knee, it seems still fine several hours afterwards (only stiffening up a little bit after sitting for a while, which has been the norm since I injured it). I wore the brace (and probably will continue to) and the water was surprisingly warm -- well, not at all a bother anyway (it was actually a little chilly, but after cranking on that wishboom, cool is good).
