battling corruption that's got entrenched power is the trick
it's easy to see the way that power was (and is being) consolidated -- it's through the crafting of specific lies/campaigns to change the way people will vote (and answer polls) So how do we go about countering these folks without sinking to their level? By exposing and dissecting these campaigns and countering them with facts and proper science. It doesn't seem that hard, but maybe that's because I'm starting to see that a whole bunch of things are all related to solving the problem:
- taxes
- education
- economics
- socialism
- stable family situations
- capitalism
- government regulation
- environmental concerns
and after iterating over at least some of them, the complexity of the problem becomes more apparent, as there're obviously very many interrelated feedback loops (damn, i've really become a super-geek to be able to come up with a ridiculous phrase like that)
It does seem that the simple approach of really promoting openness and education above almost all other values is a good way to go until I do a better job of figuring out a more subtle (and hopefully effective) strategy
