a little bit of windsurfing on Saturday afternoon --the booties are great, now i need gloves (and a hood/hat) -- was out last week in really light wind (almost none) and the practice was good, but I got cocky (didn't fall in at all), so on Sat, with a little bit more wind (but still not really enough) I managed to fall in a couple times -- the first one was really bracing but after that not so bad. It's now at the time of year where there's a real incentive at a certain point not to fall in again (as getting mostly dry is a chore and it tends to make me quite cold). So what I screwed up at wasn't jibe turns (well yeah, that too, but not as much) but was mostly counting on wind that disappears. In order to get the most out of a light wind, it's necessary to lean a little bit and so I guess when the wind is unpredictable like that I need to figure out a way to lean and stay balanced over the board at the same time. But I'm psyched about how far my jibe turning skills are going. I have pretty much figured out the one that works really well in light winds, which is to steer past a pure jibe and then lay the mast down almost to the water, step back on the board and yank around the rest of the way -- when done in a decent wind, it's possible to then just twist the wishboom (going from "backwards" to "regular" in terms of wishboom orientation) and sail out of it with no loss of power (planing) at all. I'm still not sure that I have it completely wired in really heavy air though, when I've tried, it gets dicey. I guess true success is really not going to come until I get a harness working (as without the ability to practive repeatedly in heavy wind, I'll not get better), right now, I have to take 20 minute breaks after 5 minutes of sailing in really good air.
