about community
no frosts since last numbers (which is all that's really important at this point, right?)
I had an epiphany about community pretty much coinciding with the memorial service for Mom in the Stone Church in E-town 2+ weeks ago. It's about community. True community is a collection of 1-to-1 relationships that have depth (to the point that both parties feel a compassion for the other that really is the "family" or "tribal" instinct which has glued human societies together from the start). So whenever there's a critical mass of these intense 1-to-1 relationships between multiple individuals (in a larger town/institution/church/whatever), then voila, you have a community. If within a certain group of people you have multiple overlapping connections (making for an inherently tighter, stronger community network), then that's even better. It seems to me that it would be possible to unite a bunch of people around a common goal (one that's obviously for the greater good) and actively build a web of connections between individuals.
